Nepal Bar Association gives five-day ultimatum to CJ Rana to step down



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association has given a five-day ultimatum to Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana to resign while also announcing a protest program to mount pressure on the CJ.

A meeting of Nepal Bar Working Committee held Friday decided to protest with advocates tying black armband in the Supreme Court from Sunday to Wednesday. Nepal Bar Vice President Raksha Basyal called on legal practitioners of Kathmandu Valley to actively participate in the protest.

Vice President Basyal said, “We will announce more protest programs if he does not resign during the given timeframe.”

Stating that the CJ could not uphold the dignity of the court and has not been able to curb malpractices and corruption, Nepal Bar also demanded the CJ not to issue an order or take decision from the Supreme Court bench.
