Vaccination against COVID-19 effective in Nepal

A result of sample survey showed 68.6 percent antibody development among the vaccinated

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has said the vaccination against COVID-19 in the recent time showed a positive impact in Nepal.

The positive result with the development of antibodies up to 90 percent was shown from a sample test conducted among 13,161 persons from various parts of the country. The sample survey was conducted among the people who took the vaccines against COVID-19 from July 5 to August 14.

As per the survey result, 68.6 percent of sample showed the antibody development. The antibody is 80 percent among the people vaccinated once and up to 90 percent among the people vaccinated full dose.

Ministry Spokesperson Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel said the finding showed the anti-COVID-19 vaccination in Nepal was effective. Vero Cell, Johnson and Johnson, and Covishield vaccines are administered in Nepal.

So far, the number of people given first dose of vaccines has reached more than 5.5 million while those of the second dose have reached over 4.5 million. However, prevention and control is the only effective measure to stay away from coronavirus because it mutates frequently.

The Ministry urged all to maintain social and physical distancing, avoid crowds, use masks properly, not leave home except essential works and take vaccines on time. The Ministry has further reminded everyone to contact local levels once they witness illness similar to coronavirus and get tested in the nearby laboratory.

Once they are positive with the coronavirus, they must avoid contact with others for seven days and stay in isolation for ten days.
