Bishwo Nath Poudel sworn in as NPC Vice Chairman



KATHMANDU:  Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel has taken an oath of office and secrecy as the Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) on Thursday morning.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba administered the oath of office and secrecy to Poudel amidst a program organized at Singha Durbar this morning. Other NCP members Dr. Ram Kumar Phuyal and Dil Bahadur Gurung were also sworn in.

A cabinet meeting held in Baluwatar on Tuesday appointed Dr. Poudel as the Vice Chairman of the NPC. He was an NPC member during PM Deuba’s previous premiership.

Poudel holds a PhD degree from the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California at Berkeley.

Likewise, Dr. Ram Kumar Phuyal and Dil Bahadur Gurung were appointed as members of NPC.

Office-bearers of the NPC were relieved automatically when former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had lost the primership after losing the confidence vote on May 10, 2021. Phuyal and Gurung were made NPC members from Maoist Center quota.

Remaining positions of NPC office-bearers’ would be appointed in the future from the UML’s Madhav Kumar Nepal faction and Janata Samajbadi Party’s Upendra Yadav faction.
