Election Commission summons both factions of JSP to resolve dispute

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has called the rival factions of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) to its office for discussion.

According to EC Spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha, the EC has called JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav and another Chairman, Mahanth Thakur, to office at 11 p.m. on July 6 to discuss common grounds of understanding.

The Act Related to the Political Parties has provisions as per which the EC has invited both factions in dispute to facilitate understanding between each other. Both factions of JSP Chairmen have taken action against each other.

Yadav has expelled 4 leaders including Chairman Thakur from the party and Thakur has also expelled Yadav from the party.

Few days back, Yadav submitted a letter of action against Thakur faction with the signature of a majority member of the 51-member executive committee of the party.

Thakur faction claimed majority in the party by reshuffling the executive committee.

However, EC refused to validate the changes the rivaling factions of JSP made independently.

Yadav faction has filed a petition with the commission claiming authorization after the commission rejected claims from both sides.
