UML Vice-chair Gautam recalls supporters and opponents of republic

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Vice-chairperson Bam Dev Gautam has looked back and recalled the supporters and opponents of republic on Republic Day.

Extending wishes on Republic Day Saturday, Gautam urged all to stay committed to fulfil the aspirations of martyrs whose sacrifices made institutionalizing the republic possible.

Gautam remembered Nepali Congress (NC) leader Girija Prasad Koirala and UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Maoist Center leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ as the proponents of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

He also recalled that few UML leaders, without taking names, were against establishing republic in 2008 when the parliament declared the nation as republic democratic.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is also criticized time and again as opponent of the republic at that time.
