Three injured as Holi revelers splash acid mistaking it for water



KATHMANDU: Three persons were injured when Holi enthusiasts splashed acid mistaking it for water on the other partakers Sunday.

According to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kathmandu a 16-year-old girl and two boys – aged 11 and 9 – got injured in the acid splash in Shankharapur-1, Kathmandu.

“The children observing Holi by throwing water and colors to each other happened to use the acid gallon kept in a dairy taking it for water, “the police said.

The teenagers suffered acid burns on her face and both hands.

The injured are undergoing treatment at Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested 17-year-old Pawan Pahadi and 18-year-old Akash Tamang for their involvement in the incident.

According to the police, the dairy had kept acid in a gallon to measure the fat in the milk.

It is learned that the youths who reached out to the dairy while playing Holi took the gallon full of acid mistaking it for water and splashed it on the children taking part in the Holi celebration.

The police informed that further investigation into the case is underway.
