MCC can be passed only after necessary amendments and national consensus: Maoist Chair Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Chairman of Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has reiterated the need to forge a national consensus on the issue of ratifying the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) by making amendments.

Prachanda, in his political dossier presented at the party’s 8th General Convention, has emphasized the need to make amendments to the MCC Nepal Compact before endorsing it from the Parliament.

“We have to take the agenda of nationality, national independence, sovereignty and geographical integrity with strong determination,” he has said adding, “Only such firm determination can enhance our party’s credibility in the people and can help to make a strong hold among the people.”

“MCC project has to be passed only after amendment and making public consensus on it,” he said in his political dossier.

It should be noted that the coalition government led by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has formed a three-member task force to recommend to the government on the widely-debated MCC.

Headed by CPN-Unified Socialist senior leader Jhalanath Khanal, the task force has Nepali Congress leader Gyanendra Karki and Maoist Center leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
