SAURAHA: The closed session of CPN-UML scheduled for 10 am this morning has been delayed for more than three hours in an attempt to seek consensus among the leaders vying for office bearers and other key posts of the party.

According to UML sources, Chairman Oli, who got the mandate to pick the name of office bearers, is busy consulting the leaders eyeing on the party’s key posts including Chairman, Senior Vice-chairman, General Secretary, and Secretary among many others.

Earlier, the closed session of Saturday had been delayed by five hours.

Chairman of the Presidium KP Sharma Oli, who has the authority to bring a draft of the agreement from the closed session hall, is busy making the list.

The closed session was delayed due to the inability of the Oli faction leaders to reach an agreement on the senior vice chairman and general secretary.

It is not clear yet who among Shankar Pokhrel and Bishnu Poudel will bag the post of general secretary. Even though Chairman Oli proposed Ishwar Pokhrel for the post of senior vice-president, Subash Nembang has said that he will not accept the post of vice-president.

As Bhim Rawal is campaigning for the post of chairman, there is a possibility that the general convention will go to the polls. There is a possibility of election for the post of chairperson even if there is consensus on other posts.

The organizers have stated that vote counting will be over soon as the party has agreed to adopt electronic voting.

The General Convention, which started on Friday, is preparing to conclude today by electing new leadership.

A leader informed that they are preparing to select the leadership today and hold a declaration meeting in Sauraha on Monday.
