Air pollution measurement begins in Birgunj

BIRGUNJ: Air pollution measurement has started in Birgunj. The pollution is being measured through bluesky device connected to Solakhpur located in Ward No. 31 of Birgunj Metropolitan City (BMC).

The equipment has been installed in coordination with the environment department of Tribhuvan University, said chief engineer of the environment and disaster management division of the BMC, Sunil Kumar Karna.

It covers a large part of the country’s largest Parsa-Bara industrial corridor. Complaints of increased pollution have not been addressed as many industries here have not taken steps to control industrial pollution.

Even Sirsia River has become highly polluted as contaminated water, chemicals, ashes, etc. from the industries are being dumped in the River flowing through the corridor without any treatment.

Karna said the extent to which the industry is polluting air, water and sound are being assessed in coordination with the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
