President could not uphold prestige of presidency: NC President Deuba

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said President Bidhya Devi Bhandari could not uphold the prestige of her position and institution.

Speaking at an interaction between the opposition alliance and sectoral experts in New Baneshwor Monday, Deuba said Prime Minister KP Oli and President Bidhya Bhandari eroded the dignity and repute of the Presidency.

“Article 75 (5) envisions appointing any Member of Parliament as Prime Minister who is able to produce majority support. Though we produced to the majority required and laid claim, the President instead of abiding by her duty and appointing me PM took to dissolve the Parliament,” Deuba said. He added, “Such move eroded the dignity of the Presidency.”
