SC allocates 10 minutes for hearing on writ petition related to HoR dissolution

KATHMANDU: The constitutional bench of the Supreme Court has assigned 10 minutes to each advocate for the hearing on the case related with dissolution of House of Representatives (HoR).

The Constitutional Bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has assigned 10 minutes to each advocate speaking on behalf of the writ petitioners on Friday.

Advocate Santosh Bhandari, one of the petitioners, debated in the constitutional bench on behalf of the writ petitioners today.

Chief Justice Rana has constituted a bench headed by Justices Deepak Karki, Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, Tej Bahadur KC and Bam Kumar Shrestha for the hearing of cases related with HoR dissolution.

A majority of members of the dissolved HoR had filed a writ petition against the dissolution of HoR  and a demand for an order to make Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba the Prime Minister as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.

Earlier, on May 21, President Bidya Devi Bhandari had dissolved HoR and declared mid-term elections at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

Under normal circumstances, the hearing on the constitutional bench is held on Wednesdays and Fridays; however, during the hearing on the case related with dissolution of HoR in December, the Bench had arranged for the daily hearings.
