Voting on no-confidence against CM Gurung taking place today

POKHARA:  A voting on the no-confidence motion filed against Chief Minister of Gandaki Pradesh Prithvi Subba Gurung is taking place on Wednesday.

The voting will begin after remaining lawmakers will deliver their views on the no-confidence in the Provincial Assembly session to be held at 1 pm, said the secretariat of the Province Assembly (PA).

Earlier, Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party Leader and proposed Chief Minister of Gandaki Pradesh Krishna Chandra Nepali had filed a no-confidence motion against Gurung on Monday. The voting will begin once the deliberation on the no-confidence by lawmakers will be over.

As many as 28 provincial lawmakers from Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) are in favor of the no confidence motion.

Chief Minster Gurung on April 14 had recommended ending the session of the Province Assembly after being tipped that a no-confidence motion was being filed against him.

Chief of Gandaki Pradesh Amik Sherchan had immediately prorogued the session at midnight of the same day on the recommendation of Gurung.

Sherchan had called for a special session at the request of the opposition parties.

The province assembly meeting called for Tuesday was postponed for 1 pm today following the protests by the lawmakers of the ruling CPN-UML demanding PCR tests of PA lawmakers.

The provincial Business Advisory Committee took a decision to conduct PCR test on all PA members by 5 pm Tuesday and continue the session Wednesday after receiving test reports.

UML provincial lawmaker Krishna Thapa informed that the PA Secretariat also decided to allow lawmakers testing positive for COVID-19 to vote on the no-confidence motion. However, COVID-19-positive lawmakers will not get the floor to speak.

Today’s session of Gandaki PA will conduct voting on the no-confidence motion filed against CM Gurung.
