NC expresses solidarity with Myanmar protesters

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has expressed solidarity with the people of Myanmar who have been relentlessly protesting against the military takeover of the country’s democratically elected government.

Issuing a press note signed by NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma Sunday, the party has condemned the military’s escalation of violent crackdown against protesters and said it was closely following the situation.

Terming the military action against protesters inhumane, the NC has called for the restoration of the people-elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi, the release of Suu Kyi and other political prisoners and an end to bloodshed in the country.

It has stated that NC’s policy was to support the struggle for democracy anywhere in the world.

It has also urged national and international organizations to increase pressure against the military in Myanmar to end the atrocities inflicted on the protesters.
