Former lawmaker Dr. Upreti passes away

KATHMANDU: Former lawmaker of National Assembly and renowned medical practitioner Dr. Shankar Nath Upreti, 88, passed away in Kathmandu on Saturday.

A lawmaker in National Assembly after the restoration of democracy in 1990, Upreti was forced behind the bars several times for his conviction in democracy and protest against the party less Panchayat system.

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed grief over Dr. Upreti’s demise and has saying he has lost an old friend, a loyal leader of the party and a tireless social worker.

Dr. Upreti’s last rituals were carried out at Aryaghat on Sunday morning.
