US would prioritize Nepal for COVID vaccines, Ambassador Berry tells Home Minister



KATHMANDU: US Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry called on Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa on Thursday and discussed Nepal-US relations, mutual assistance, and cooperation.

During the meeting, Home Minister Thapa congratulated Joe Biden through Ambassador Berry on his election as US President and wished him a successful tenure.

Minister Thapa expressed his confidence that Nepal-US relations would reach new heights during Biden’s tenure.

He said that a vaccination campaign against the coronavirus has been started in Nepal, adding that Nepal expects to receive vaccination assistance from the US as well.

Home Minister Thapa thanked the United States for its assistance in the areas of development, disaster management, and training of security agencies and construction of physical infrastructure in Nepal, and hoped that the assistance would continue in the days to come.

On a separate note, Home Minister Thapa said that the government had announced elections in April and expressed confidence that all parties would participate.

During the meeting, Ambassador Berry discussed Nepal-US relations and expressed confidence that the relations would be further strengthened during the tenure of US President Biden.

Talking about President Biden’s priorities, he said the United States would continue to support Nepal’s democracy, human rights, and climate change.

Ambassador Berry said that Nepal would be given priority in the distribution of the US-produced coronavirus vaccine.
