Love of NC cadres and votes I received determine my rank in party: Dr. Shekhar Koirala

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that the love of party’s cadres and votes he received in the general convention had determined his rank in the party.

Dr. Koirala, who reached home district Morang Monday for the first time after losing party presidency to NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba in the recently held 14th general convention of the party, said the votes he received in the general convention were testament to his rank in the party. He has automatically become NC central member.

NC’s re-elected President and Prime Minister Deuba placed Dr. Koirala at 20th position in NC order of precedence in the first meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) held after the general convention. This raised controversy in the party as the candidate losing the presidency had been ranked second in the party in the past.

However, breaking tradition, NC President Deuba placed Dr. Koirala behind 13 current office bearers and six former office bearers. The break from tradition also led to Dr. Koirala boycotting the first meet of the newly elected CWC of the party on Saturday.

Nevertheless, in Morang, he said that love of party cadres towards him determined his rank in the party.

He also admitted that his weakness of not being able to manage his family members, referring to Dr. Shashank Koriala and Sujata Koirala, during the general convention was also one of the reasons in his defeat.

He also urged party cadres and leaders to be focused on the upcoming election.
