‘Peaceful revolution through widespread popular mandate’

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ presented a document titled ‘Path to Socialism in the 21st Century’ at the closed session of the 8th National General Convention of the party that began today.

Preparing in a continuous and systematic manner for a peaceful revolution and becoming accountable to the proletariat has been mentioned in the document, said party spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

The major thrust of the document is to build a people’s organization and complete the socialist revolution peacefully by building a broad mass base among the people. “Socialism is possible through peaceful revolt. We are committed to the proletariat, the revolution is going on in a continuous and systematic manner, national freedom should be defended and we should be accountable to the working-class people,” adds the document, according to Mahara.

The closed session, which saw a delayed start, formed a seven-member presidium. Soon after Chairperson Prachanda tabled the document, leader Dev Prasad Gurung submitted a proposal to amend the statute of the party.
