CPN (Maoist Center) concerned over Election Commission’s decision

KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Center) has opposed the decision of the Election Commission of Nepal on the party’s statute.

The Commission has barred the party to include the terms-Communism and Class Struggle-in its statute.

CPN (Maoist Centre)’s spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara expressed his qualm over the Commission’s decision. The Commission had updated the statute of the CPN (Maoist Center) by removing wordings such as communism, class struggle and people’s revolt.

In a press meet organized here Monday to inform about the ongoing 8th general convention and its closed session, spokesperson Mahara asserted, “Communism is the key word for the communists. If it is removed, nothing is left behind. We cannot agree with the decision of the Commission. We will reach a conclusion after deliberating on it.”

Stating that the name and ideologies of any party’s would remain as the guiding principle, Mahara expressed his confidence that the Commission would be reconsidering its decision. The Commission has removed those wordings from the statute, stating that the words that were not in the constitution and law, and hence could not be included in the party’s statute.

The statute of CPN (Maoist) mentions that class struggle is major basis for social development. Earlier, the major opposition CPN (UML) opposed the Commission’s decision. Deputy general-secretary Bishnu Rimal and former Attorney General Ramesh Badal among others had reached the Commission and voiced the need to assert their goals in their statute.
