Nepal’s women’s volleyball team reaches final undefeated



KATHMANDU: The Nepali women’s team has reached the final of the Asian Central Zone Women’s and Men’s Challenge Cup undefeated in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Nepal reached the final for the second time in a row by defeating Kyrgyzstan in a straight set in a match played at Shahid Suravardi Covered Hall on Monday.

Putting the opponents under pressure from the beginning, Nepal won the game 25-8, 25-14, 25-16. Laudable performance of Salina Shrestha, Pratibha Mali, Shanti Tharu, Aruna Shahi and Saraswati Choudhary among other team members, led Nepal undefeated to the final round of the competition.

Now, Nepal will play against Uzbekistan tomorrow (Tuesday) for the title.

In their first match of the tournament on Thursday, the Nepali women’s team defeated Sri Lanka 3-2. In the second match, Maldives lost, in the third match, host Bangladesh and in the fourth match, Uzbekistan lost in straight sets.

Earlier, the women’s team had won a historic gold medal in the AVC Central Zone in Bangladesh. Six teams including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan participated in the competition.
