President revokes ordinance on political parties



KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has repealed the Ordinance on Political Parties (Second Amendment) 2021 on the recommendation of the government.

A cabinet meeting held Monday evening decided to make the recommendation to scrap the ordinance to the President.

According to the Office of the President, the ordinance has been repealed in accordance with clause ‘2b’ of Article 114 of the Constitution.

The ordinance was introduced to facilitate the spilt of political parties.

After the ordinance on political parties was issued by the President on August 18, the CPN-UML and JSP had split. New parties the CPN-Unified Socialist Party led by Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Democratic Socialist Party led by Mahanta Thakur were registered.
