Ruling NC holding office-bearers’ meeting today

To set date for ward convention

KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) is holding an office-bearers’ meeting on Tuesday morning.

To be held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Budhanilkantha at 9 am, the meeting will dwell on the preparations for the 14th General Convention of the party, informed Krishna Prasad Paudel, the chief secretary of the NC’s Central Party Office.

The meeting has been called at Budhanilkanth since disgruntled leaders and cadres are staging sit-ins at the Central Party Office in Sanepa.

The NC has not resolved the active membership dispute, yet. The ward convention slated for July 27 has been postponed.

Today’s meeting will hold discussions and is expected to fix the date for ward convention, said Poudel.

The Central Active Membership Probe Committee led by central member Ramesh Lekhak is making preparations to submit its report today.

Earlier in the office-bearers’ meeting, Lekhak had said that the Committee would accomplish the task and hand over the report to Prime Minister Deuba by today.

As many as 5,000 complaints had been lodged at the Committee. The Committee has not looked into the files of active memberships of Bara and Saptari districts. There are disputes over active memberships still in 125 wards.

The dispute over the active memberships is likely to affect the 14th General Convention of the party.

The 14th General Convention of the NC has been slated for September 1-4.
