Political leaders speak their mind at a civil society discussion

KATHMANDU: Leaders of major political parties participated in a discussion program organized by Nagarik Andolan in Kathmandu Saturday.

Leaders took time to speak their mind at the program.

Speaking at the program, CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ urged Janata Samajbadi Party Central Council Chairman Mahantha Thakur to lead the government and resolve contemporary issues in Nepali politics instead of following others’ lead.

Stating that he was the one to take the proposal to amend the constitution, in line with Madhesh-centric parties’ demand, to the Parliament, Maoist Chairman Prachanda reminded Thakur that Prime Minister KP Oli had foiled that constitution amendment bid.

He admitted that it was a mistake on his part to hand over the Maoist Center party to the KP Oli-chaired CPN-UML for the sake of communist unity. He added that he, however, had been actively opposing Oli-attitude.

Stating that both Thakur and he were victims of Oli-attitude, Prachanda called on the JSP leader to march ahead in unity by forging consensus.

At the program, Thakur accused the Maoist chairman of not withdrawing support to KP-Oli led government as of yet. He clarified that he went with his demands to meet Prime Minister KP Oli as Oli was ruling the government currently.

Alleging Prachanda became a victim as he could not exercise power, Thakur cleared that he had been a victim as his party’s demands of freeing political prisoners were not addressed. He also made it clear that he had not struck any deal with PM Oli.

CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Nepali Congress leader Minendra Rijal, among others, also participated in the program.
