KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung has urged political parties not to make attempts for a government change.
While inaugurating the 27th AGM of the Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation) here today, the Minister said the people wished to see the presence of incumbent government in the future too. “There will not be any change of government,” he said.
The Government Spokesperson went on to say that those making efforts for changing the government would be left disappointed. “Obstruction was not needed in the country and be sure that the current government would bring prosperity in the country.”
Stating the government was worried about the nation, he claimed the existing government would take the country on the right track. ” The Prime Minister wished to take the country forward, but for the same reasons he faced obstructions time and again, he was barred from making progress towards that end but again his leadership has been successful.”
On a different note, the Minister said the government had intensified the drive to connecting each home with internet service as per its objective to build a digital Nepal.
Sharing about the government plan for the same, he said the internet facility would be expanded with the installation of optical fiber in all possible areas and there would be wireless internet in the areas where the installation of optical fiber seemed not possible.
Stating the government had launched the Nagarik Apps and Mobile Apps, he said the preparations were on to revise the Telecommunications Act-1997 to meet the aspiration for a digital Nepal.
As he said, the government has the plan of deducting revenue to adjust the price of internet service and make it affordable for all. ” The government has introduced programmes and policies to build a digital Nepal and the Ministry has formed the Digital Framework Committee to proceed towards that end. ”
Also speaking on the occasion Vice Chair of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Anjan Shrestha, said political instability had its implications on nation’s economy and urged political parties to make efforts for achieving stability.
Rajendra Malla of Nepal Chamber of Commerce was of the view of making information technology rural-centric.
CAN Federation President Nawaraj Kunwar urged the government to invest more in the communications and information technology as it would contribute for the development in other sectors as well. The Federation that was established in 1992 has its branches in 58 districts.
