Ex-British Gurkha Army Dr Laksamba dies of COVID-19



LONDON: One more Nepali national has died from coronavirus in the United Kingdom (UK).

The deceased has been identified as former British Gurkha Army Professor Dr. Chandra Laksamba.

Originally from Sikaincha of Taplejung district, Dr Laksamba, who was hospitalized at Farnborough-based Frimley Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 died in the course of treatment.

According to his family sources, he suffered from brain hemorrhage while undergoing treatment for COVID-19.

He had been teaching at Nepal Open University in Nepal after he came back home, ending his permanent residency status in the UK. He had gone to the UK to visit his spouse and family members few weeks ago.

After retirement from the Gorkha Army, Laksamba, 59, had served the Oxford University as a research assistant for around two years and as a project coordinator of a census project implemented by Nepal Study Centre, UK from 2006 to 2009 to identify Nepali populace in the UK.

It may be noted that the Nepal government had appointed him as a member of the Bouddha University Council last year.

Laksamba had become the president of the Free Students Union at Amrit Science Campus (ASCOL) in 2036 BS.

He is survived by his spouse and two sons.
