KATHMANDU: The government is launching the vaccination campaign against coronavirus from today.
The Ministry of Health and Population has said the vaccination will be started from 62 hospitals initially.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to inaugurate the vaccination amidst a virtual program at 10 am on Wednesday.
However, the ministry said that the number of hospitals may increase.
According to the Ministry, hospitals in all districts will be made vaccination centers, and the vaccines will reach all the states by Monday barring some hilly districts.
In the Kathmandu Valley, the ministry has designated 17 hospitals for vaccination. The hospitals include Nepal Medical College, Ganga Lal Hospital, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Army Hospital, Nepal Police Hospital, Armed Police Force Hospital, Veer Hospital, Ayurveda Training Center Kirtipur, Teku Hospital, Maternity Home, Patan Hospital, Kathmandu Medical College and Civil Hospital.
Likewise, Kist Medical College, Ananda One Hospital, and Korean Hospital and Bhaktapur Hospital have been designated for vaccination.
Similarly, the ministry will designate some hospitals in districts such as Kaski, Chitwan, Moranag and Rupandehi.
Vaccination will be given to health workers and frontline workers at the initial phase.
In the inauguration program, vaccines would be administered simultaneously at the 62 hospitals and more than 120 vaccination centers in all seven provinces.
The Section has made preparation for administering vaccines through 300 vaccination centers in the 77 districts within January 31.
One million doses of vaccines were brought to Nepal from India on January 21. The Indian government had provided the vaccines under the grant assistance.
The Ministry of Health and Population has already prepared a list of 430,000 frontline health workers and other high-risk workers to be vaccinated.
Among them, as many as 2,25,782 are health workers and others are sanitation workers, ambulance drivers, hearse drivers, women’s health volunteers and frontline security personnel.
The Covishield vaccine has been developed jointly by the Oxford University and the AstraZeneca pharmaceutical company. The vaccines have been manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.
The District COVID-19 Vaccination Coordination Committee will monitor the vaccination in the respective districts.
