KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has clarified that the ruling coalition was not intended against any party, but it was for the protection of the constitution.

Addressing the eight general convention of the CPN (Maoist Center) here Sunday, PM Deuba reiterated, “The five-party coalition is not against any political party or person. It is formed to safeguard the constitution and to let the parliament run for its full term. I wish the coalition would continue further.” Deuba urged CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli and other political parties not to get the impression that the five-party coalition was against them.

Lauding the ‘notable’ role of CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on holding Constituent Assembly election, constitution formation and peace process, the PM Assured that the remaining works relating to peace process would be concluded in cooperation and consensus among all sides.

On a different note, PM Deuba clarified that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), the American development project, was not treacherous in any sense. “What makes the MCC treacherous? Have you ever studied the MCC? Can a person like me who fought for nation and democracy go against nation? Would I ink anti-national treaty?”

Stating that they were discussing MCC, he appealed all to do a thorough study on the MCC which, he claimed, was in the best interest of Nepal. According to him, international law would be attracted if Nepal obtains loan from the bilateral donor agencies such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank among others.

“The MCC project agrees to abide by the law of the land in Nepal. Hence, it is not anti-national.” He assured that endorsement of MCC would be executed through wider discussions and consensus.
