PM Deuba urges to go through MCC before commenting

Says MCC is in national interest

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged to read the United States-backed grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) first then only comment on it.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 8th National General Convention of the CPN-Maoist Center in Kathmandu Sunday, PM Deuba clarified that MCC was in Nepal’s interest.

The prime minister wondered if those who have said MCC infringed on national sovereignty had ever read the agreement.

“It is necessary to read MCC project first. I am the prime minister of this country and I did not find anything that is contrary to national interest. How can I go against national interest after having fought for democracy and leading the nation?” Deuba said.

He also congratulated the Maoist Center for holding the general convention.
