Veterans Cup football tournament to be held in Nawalpur

NAWALPUR: A national-level ‘Veterans Cup Football Tournament’ is to be organized in Nawalpur of Nawalparasi (East of Bardaghat Susta).

On the occasion of New Year 2022, Maghe Sankranti and Maghi Festival, a football tournament is being organized by District Football Association Nawalpur with support from Returnee Migrants Nepal Nawalpur Branch and Tiger Club Gochhada.

Altogether 12 teams from all over the country would participate in the competition, said Chair of the District Football Association Nawalpur Setman Pun.

The final match of the competition will be played on January 8. The winning team will receive a cash prize of Rs. 100,000 and the runner-up team will receive Rs. 51,000, along with trophy and medals.

The best striker and the best player will also be rewarded with cash, said Pushpa Ratna Mahato, advisor of Tiger Club.

The tournament is estimated to cost around Rs. 600,000. Various local levels, Nepali and social personalities and organizations in foreign employment have provided financial support for the competition.

Hosting a national-level event in the district will also help in the promotion of tourism here, said Chair Pun.

“The national-level veterans’ football competition is expected to link tourism with sports,” he said.
