Office Chief responsible to control corruption: CIAA Chief Rai

KATHMANDU: Chief Commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Prem Kumar Rai, has said that chiefs of the concerned offices are key responsible persons in corruption control.

Inaugurating the new building of Surkhet-based office of CIAA on Thursday, Rai said that secretaries in the ministries and chiefs in other offices should play crucial roles in maintaining good-governance and integrity.

On the occasion, he said that the CIAA has submitted its recommendations to the government for corruption control along with the reasons of corruption and anomalies but they are not implemented.

Rai said that complaints at CIAA on the local levels have increased lately while adding that other complaints being registered include from education, land management, forest and environment sectors.

The Chief Commissioner also suggested that frequent monitoring of the projects was needed adding that the timely completion of the projects is delayed due to poor monitoring.

He also asked the stakeholders to pay heed to the protection of public and government properties.

Secretary of CIAA Toyam Raya and chief secretary of Karnali Province Government Raj Kumar Shrestha, among others expressed their opinions on maintaining good-governance and integrity during service delivery.

The building was constructed in three years with the total cost of Rs 93.1 million.
