Nepal Bar’s Advisory Committee also calls for resignation of Chief Justice

KATHMANDU: The Advisory Committee of the Nepal Bar Association has demanded the resignation of Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

A meeting of the Advisory Committee of Nepal Bar held Tuesday decided to seek the resignation of CJ Rana concluding that the dignity of the court could not be protected and the judiciary’s conduct was under fire under CJ Rana, said senior Advocate Shambhu Thapa.

Senior Advocate Tikaram Bhattarai said that 36 out of the 37 members of the Advisory Committee favored the resignation of CJ Rana.

CJ Rana is accused of colluding with the Executive and eroding the dignity of the court. Following the tussle between CJ Rana and other judges of the Supreme Court (SC), no case has been heard in the Apex Court for two days and the pressure is mounting on CJ Rana to resign.

As many as 14 SC judges boycotted benches saying that CJ Rana should provide a solution or express his commitment to remedy his mistake.
