KATHMANDU: In an attempt to address the uncertainty related to the 14th General Convention of ruling Nepali Congress (NC), the party’s Election Committee is holding discussion with the office bearers and top leaders on Tuesday as well.

According to NC sources, the meeting is focused on finding some common grounds to resolve the disputes in the districts where the local conventions were affected due to various reasons.

The meeting held at the NC parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar is attended by top leaders and officials including party President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat among many others.

According to NC Central Office Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel, the meeting is focused on the ward convention schedule of 11 districts and the general convention as a whole.

NC has already held local level conventions in 51 districts. 13 districts have not completed the local and district levels conventions yet.

Although the party has already set the General Convention date for November 25-29, the changes made in the local and district convention schedule and the ongoing dispute on active membership of the party are likely to adversely impact the party’s mega event.

The CEC had decided to hold district conventions in 21 Himalayan districts before Dashain, but in that period only 13 districts held district conventions, while ward conventions have yet to be held in eight districts of Province 2. The active membership dispute in Rautahat and Rasuwa also has not been resolved.

The CEC is preparing to move ahead to conclude ward convention in districts where it is yet to be held before Tihar. The NC has already revised the date of the Central General Convention four times.
