‘Abu Dhabi Dialogue’ to discuss increase in workers ‘salaries and protection’



KATHMANDU: Abu Dhabi Dialogue, the talks between top officials of 16 labor importing and exporting countries, including Nepal, which is underway in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since Monday, is discussing various labor related agendas, including an increase in workers’ salary and protection.

The conference will last for four days. This is the sixth conference attended by high officials from different countries.

Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha, Under Secretary for Labor Thaneshwor Bhusal and others are participating from Nepal. This conference is held with the objective of discussing the interests of migrant workers.

In particular, the focus will be on how to build a harmonious relationship between the source country of the workers and the importing country.

“Increasing workers’ wages and demanding their safety is our main agenda,” said Danduraj Ghimire, a spokesman for the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, adding, “The discussion that takes place is of special importance in this regard.”

The dialogue is attended by high-ranking officials from 16 countries including six from the Gulf countries and one from Malaysia.
