Monsoon mayhem: Swollen Indrawati sweeps away 3-story house in Melamchi Bazaar



KATHMANDU: The swollen Indrawati River has washed away a three-story house in the Melamchi Bazaar in Sindhupalchowk district on Saturday morning.

The house which remained intact in the massive floods that occurred on June 15 has been swept away by the floods induced by incessant rains, said District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk.

The floods triggered by heavy rains in Helambu and Melamchi have swept away a three-story house belonging to Gopal Dulal, a local, said police.

These places are prone to flood risks

The risk of floods has increased in tributaries and major rivers across the country due to incessant rains today.

Meanwhile, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has urged people to take precautions living along the river banks warning of flood risks induced by active monsoon in various parts of the country.

According to the Department, the water level is likely to surge in Kankai, Koshi, Kamala, Bagmati rivers and in their tributaries due to heavy rainfall on Saturday.

People living along the banks of these rivers have been alerted of the possible flood risks.

Similarly, the water level is also likely to increase in the Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali, Rapti and Babai rivers.

According to a weather bulletin issued by the Department this morning, flood is likely to occur in the rivers flowing through Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Udayapur, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Taplejung and Sankhuwasabha in Pradesh 1.

Similarly, the water level might surge in the rivers flowing through Bara, Dhanusha, Siraha and Saptari districts.

Likewise, floods are likely to occur in the rivers located in Rasuwa, Sindhupalchowk, Ramechhap, Nuwakot, Dolakha, Dhading, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Kathmandu, Sindhuli, said the Department.
