JSP on verge of split with both factions taking action against each other

KATHMANDU: The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has been on the brink of split after the party leaders were sharply divided over the Prime Minister KP Sharma’s move to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR).

The Thakur-Mahato group of the JSP is in favor of Prime Minister Oli’s move while the other Yadav-Bhattarai faction is against it.

Earlier, the Thakur-Mahato faction had remained silent to support Prime Minister Oli’s move for the formation of the new government in accordance with Article 76 (3) of the Constitution.

This faction again voiced support to Oli for the formation of the new government in line with Article 76 (5).

The intra-party feud of the JSP has touched a new height, with both the factions taking actions against each other.

Central Council Chairman Mahantha Thakur of the party has sought a clarification from another chairman Upendra Yadav as per the disciplinary procedure of the party statute.

Thakur has sought a seven-point clarification from Yadav for expelling four provincial lawmakers in Lumbini Pradesh, joining hands with Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (Maoist Center) to lodge a writ petition at the Supreme Court seeking reinstatement of the HoR.

The Yadav-Bhattarai faction has been given a three-day deadline for furnishing clarifications.

Earlier, the Yadav-Bhattarai faction had also sought clarifications from four leaders of the Thakur-Mahato faction including Thakur.
