KATHMANDU: The government has decided to close all educational institutions in the country until further notice due to the soaring cases of coronavirus infection.

Likewise, the Cabinet meeting held Monday evening also approved Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) recommendation to postpone examinations at all academic levels. However, educational institutions will be encouraged  to continue teaching-learning activities through online/alternative means.

It also gave local levels the authority to impose a ban in places with more than 500 active infected people in the urban areas and 200 in rural areas, as recommended by CCMC.

Similarly, the meeting also decided not to make Nepal a transit to reach other nations. Lately, hordes of Indian nationals were using Nepal to go to various destinations. The Cabinet also decided to completely close Nepal-India border points citing the open border and the high risk it poses to Nepal.

Meanwhile, domestic and international air travel will not be suspended for the time being. Nepalis returning from international flights will have to undergo a mandatory 10-day home quarantine and foreigner mandatory hotel quarantine.
