RUKUM EAST: A person was killed when a dry landslide buried an excavator at Simkhola (Pursabang) of Bhume rural municipality-8 on Sunday evening.

The deceased has been identified as excavator driver Karnabir Pun, 42, of Lukum of Bhume-1.

The incident occurred while the vehicle was being used for roadway construction, according to Area police Office, Khabang police chief Shabin Shah.

The vehicle was almost buried in the landslide debris and until the filing of this report, efforts were underway to clear off landslide depositions with the help of a bulldozer.

The road construction project covers Pursabang-Rukukot-Kuchibang-Korja-Tamari-Labang road section. Rural municipality chair Ramsur Budhamagar said soil at the accident site is considered as loose and it was agreed to use only hand tools instead of any machinery for the construction works.

As he said, the contractor company’s decision to use the heavy equipment led to the accident .RSS
