UML Chair Oli says party will not go in reverse gear

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli has clarified that he will not rescind his decisions taken on March 12 and onwards.

Speaking at the parliamentary party (PP) meeting Friday in Baluwatar, he also indicated that action against senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Bhim Rawal would be initiated for the clarification letters they submitted Thursday.

The UML held its PP meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar today.

Leaders, close to Nepal-Khanal faction including Jhala Nath Khanal, also attended the PP meeting, with exception to Nepal and Rawal.

Addressing the PP meeting, leader Khanal demanded the party Chairman Oli to restore party committees’ status to May 16, 2018. He warned the party would not be a single bloc if Chair Oli refused to revoke his decisions.

Meanwhile, UML Chairman Oli said the party would not go in reverse gear, meaning he would not repeal the decisions taken on March 12 and onwards.

On March 12, Chairman Oli had amended the party’s statute and added 23 former Maoist leaders to the party’s Central Committee. He also divested all leaders close to the Nepal-Khanal faction off their key responsibilities.

The CPN-UML’s current Central Committee has 264 members after Oli’s March 12 decision.
