NC needs to break the silence on government formation: Leader Khand

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Bal Krishna Khand has said the NC should not keep mum for long regarding its stance on the government. He was of the view that the leadership needed to decide its partners at the earliest.

Speaking at a program in Butwal Friday, NC Chief Whip Khand said, “We can’t stay mute for a long time. We must make a final decision as to with whom we will build our partnership for protection of the constitution.”

Analyzing the current political upheavals in the country, he concluded that the situation was very different from what public had expected. He warned that people would soon take to the streets if political parties could not provide stability to the country.

According to sources, the CPN (Maoist Center) has approached the NC to form a new government but the latter has not been able to make a concrete decision.

Khand charged that the incumbent government had been attacking the constitution, democracy, press freedom and human rights since its formation and Prime Minister KP Oli had no moral authority to run the government after the Supreme Court reinstated the dissolved House of Representatives.

The NC will join hands with forces that abide by the charter and make a decision soon, Khand said.
