No need to take to street demanding HoR restoration: Minister Poudel

BUTWAL: General-Secretary of the Nepal Communist Party and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Poudel claimed that the country was already moving for a fresh mandate.

At a press meet organized by Nepal Press Meet, Rupandehi chapter here Tuesday, Minister Poudel asserted, “The election will be conducted in time. So, there is no point in taking to the street in the name of restoration of the House of Representatives (HoR).”

The Election Commission has also made preparation for the snap poll for the HoR to be held on April 30 and May 10 this year. The HoR was dissolved on December 20.

Ruling out the possibility of restoration of the HoR, Poudel viewed all the political parties should concentrate their efforts to the upcoming elections. He was hinting at the leaders and cadres of the Prachanda-Dahal faction of NCP saying that they should no more indulge in protesting the HoR dissolution.

He also reminded that even the court had not barred the government from forwarding the works relating to the election and argued that it was not appropriate to compare the preparation of election with the decision of the country.

Furthermore, the Minister opined that the people’s expectations were not managed by the HoR. Hence, the country was going for a fresh mandate. “Election is the life of democracy. The constitution of Nepal has a clear provision to go for the polls by dissolving the HoR,” he asserted.

On a different note, Poudel said the preparation was going on to provide a quality vaccine against COVID-19, and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to launch the administration of the vaccine the next day.
