Preparation to extend academic session till mid-June

KATHMANDU: The current academic session affected due to COVID-19 is likely to be extended by two months to address the gap.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has started legal consultation to extend the academic session up to the month of Jestha in the lunar calendar (mid-June).

The academic session usually starts from Baishak and ends in the month of Chait every year.

Though the existing education regulation has provisions that schools should be opened for 220 days in a year where teaching-learning activities should be carried out for 192 days, it has been affected due to coronavirus pandemic this year.

Teaching-learning activities were carried out for a long time virtually after physical classes were not possible due to the pandemic.

Schools in the recent period have started running classes physically by adopting health safety measures after the risk of coronavirus has started decreasing.

Saying discussion was underway to extend this academic session for two months, Spokesperson of the Ministry, Deepak Sharma shared that the education regulations should be amended from the cabinet for the same.

Discussion is also being held to start every academic session from the month of Sharwan, the beginning of the Nepali fiscal year, it is learned.
