Police fire warning shots to control crowd after woman died in accident in Lamki



SUDURPASCHIM: Police used force to resume traffic on the highway blocked by unruly local residents, after a woman was killed in a road accident in Lamki of Kailali Thursday afternoon.

Goma Thapa, 40, of Tikapur Municipality-2 died after being hit by a truck on Lamki Road in Kailali on the East-West Highway. According to the District Police Office, Thapa died on the spot.

Spokesperson of the District Police Office, Prateek Bista, said that tear gas and aerial fire had to be used to bring the situation under control. The situation became tense after angry locals blocked the highway demanding action against the driver of the truck and compensation to the family of the deceased, while vandalizing and setting fire to the truck.

As a result, hundreds of passengers heading to their destination were stranded on the road after the incident.

Meanwhile, the truck driver has been taken under control by the police.
