Formal announcement after Tuesday's Advisory Committee meet

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA), an umbrella organization of the legal practitioners in the country, has also concluded that Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana should resign from the post and end the current crisis in the judiciary.

According to sources, an emergency meeting of the NBA reached the conclusion of urging the Chief Justice to vacate the post.

However, NBA Chairman Chandeshwar Shrestha remarked that the formal view of the Bar would come after the meeting of the Advisory Committee scheduled for Tuesday.

“We have agreed at today’s meeting that he (Chief Justice Rana) should facilitate the way out through rational decision,” NBA Chair Shrestha said, adding, “However, the formal opinion of NBA will come after the Advisory Committee meeting of Tuesday.”

When asked if the meeting decided to urge the Chief Justice to resign, Shrestha replied that although the term ‘resignation’ was not used the intended interpretation is the same.
