Supreme Court judges conclude Chief Justice should resign

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the judges of the Supreme Court has concluded that the main problem behind the current judicial crisis is Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana and sought his resignation.

According to sources, a meeting of 13 Supreme Court judges held at 11 am agreed to request Chief Justice Rana to end the stalemate through this resignation. They have decided to meet him tomorrow.

Apart from the Chief Justice, all the judges present in the court attended the meeting focused on ending the current crisis judiciary has been facing.

The judges including senior judge Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Harikrishna Karki, Vishwambhar Shrestha, Dr. Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, Prakash Man Singh Raut, Bam Kumar Shrestha, Tanka Bahadur Moktan, Prakash Kumar Dhungana, Sushmalata Mathema, Kumar Regmi, Hari Prasad Phunyal and Manoj Kumar Sharma were present in the meeting.

None of the SC judges attended the bench assigned by Chief Justice Rana today.

Judges Anil Kumar Sinha, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Sapana Malla Pradhan, Tej Bahadur KC, Kumar Chudal and Nahkul Subedi are on leave of late.

A source claimed that even absentee judges expressed their solidarity with the collective decision of the majority and are in favor of the resignation of Chief Justice Rana.

Judges Sinha and Pradhan have shortened their leave and are returning to Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Leaving Chief Justice Rana aside, 19 other judges have concluded that the Chief Justice should resign.
