NC holding municipal conventions in 4 municipalities in Bhaktapur today



BHAKTAPUR: Nepali Congress (NC) is holding elections for the village/municipal conventions of four municipalities in Bhaktapur today.

NC Bhaktapur District President Durlav Thapa informed that the leadership will be selected from the election process in the convention starting from 9 am today as there are many aspirants in the fray or the leadership.

The NC has prepared a schedule for registering candidacies along with the convention today and voting on Sunday. Leaders and cadres of the NC have been present at Bhaktapur, Madhyapurthimi, Suryabinayak and Changunarayan municipalities since this morning.

Discussions have been going on in the four municipalities to field separate candidates from the panel of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula.

Congress Bhaktapur has already conducted the convention in 38 wards of the district.

The results of the city conventions seem to affect the region and district level conventions. Top Congress leaders of the district have intensified their activities. It is said that there will be tough competition in all the four municipalities mainly between the group of President Durlav Thapa and the group of presidential candidate Asta Kumar Kabe in the 13th General Convention.

District President Thapa, former district presidents Ganeshman Chakradhar, Mahesh Shrestha, Asta Kumar Kabe, Binod Kayastha, Baburaja Joshi, Krishnalal Bhandel, Kabir Rana, Uddhav Silwal and Bidur Man Singh Basnet are in a race to turn the tables in their favor.

Ram Prasad Kasula and Rajendra Tamakhu are contesting presidential elections in Bhaktapur municipality, Surendra Shrestha and Haridas Prajapati are in election fray for the leadership in Madhyapurthimi.

Similarly, District Secretary Nishan Dhungel and current Deputy President of Suryabinayak Municipal Committee Ravi Rana are contesting elections in Suryabinayak municipality and Changunarayan Municipal Committee President Shivahari KC, leader Gopal Poudel and Raju Puri are preparing to contest the elections for the president post in Changunarayan municipality.
