EC verifies Jhalanath Khanal’s sign from Delhi

KATHMANDU: Coming out from the conventional practice of calling the persons in office for verification, the Election Commission (EC) has verified former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal’s signature showing himself on Madhav Kumar Nepal led CPN-Unified Socialist party.

According to Election Commission spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha, considering the health condition of leader Khanal who has been undergoing treatment in Medanta Hospital Delhi, the Commission decided to verify his signature through the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi.

The Election Commission had on Wednesday called for the verification of the central members and lawmakers in a petition filed by the leaders to split the UML party, and register the Unified Socialist party.

Although EC recognized leader Khanal’s signature sent from Delhi, it refused to verify Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) leader now willing to join Democratic Socialist Party (DSP) Resham Chaudhary citing his name has not been mentioned in the petition.
