KATHMANDU: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has received a formal offer from the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) to host the 13th edition of the SAFF Championship in October.
SAFF General Secretary Anwarul Huq wrote to ANFA General Secretary Indraman Tuladhar proposing the latter to host the Championship in Nepal, ANFA said.
General Secretary Tuladhar said ANFA will now ready a detailed proposal of the Championship and send it to SAFF for approval.
The final decision of confirmation on the host, however, will be taken by the SAFF President and SAFF Executive Committee after reviewing the proposal from ANFA.
A virtual meeting between member countries was held on July 23 regarding the host country after Bangladesh Football Federation pulled out as host due to the rising coronavirus infections in the country.
The biennial men’s football championship has been held twice in Nepal, first in 1997 and the second in 2013 where Nepal lost to Afghanistan in the semi-final.
India has been the most successful country in the championship lifting the title on seven occasions. Nepal are yet to reach the final of the Championship.
