HoR: Deliberation concludes for today; 2 hours and 35 minutes remaining for petitioners



KATHMANDU: The deliberation on the writ petition filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) by the advocates has been over for Friday.

Out of the total time allocated for the legal practitioners on behalf of the writ petitioners, only two hours and 35 minutes is remaining now.

Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana announced the end of the bench by mentioning that the advocates have now two hours and 35 minutes remaining.

Senior advocates Shree Hari Aryal, Dr. Dinmani Pokharel, Sunil Pokharel, Tikaram Bhattarai,  Mukti Pradhan and Gopal Krishna Ghimire delivered their arguments on the writs today.

The deliberations on the writ petitions on behalf of the petitioners will be over by Sunday, said the apex court.

President Bidya Bhandari on May 21 had dissolved the HoR and announced dates for mid-term polls for November 12 and 19.

Opposition parties have filed as many 30 writ petitions against the President’s move saying that the HoR dissolution is against the constitution.

The Supreme Court is hearing on the writs since June 23.

A five-member constitutional bench led by Cholendra Shumsher Rana is hearing the writs in which Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada and Dr Ananda Mohan Bhattarai are members.

As many as 146 lawmakers from the opposition alliance have jointly filed a writ petition seeking a mandamus in the name of the President to appoint Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the Prime Minister of Nepal.
