KATHMANDU: A total of 29 advocates are delivering arguments on the writ petitions filed against the dissolution of House of Representatives (HoR) on Friday.
Three to 30 minutes have been allocated for the legal practitioners for presenting their arguments on the writs. Senior Advocates Krishna Prasad Bhandari and Satish Krishna Kharel have been given 30 minutes each while 25 minutes has been allocated for former Attorney General Mukti Pradhan.
Likewise, senior advocate Baburam Kunwar and advocate Dr Bhimarjun Acharya have been given 20 minutes each while 15 minutes has been allotted for Tika Ram Bhattarai.
Government attorneys are likely to begin their deliberations on the writs from coming Sunday.
President Bidya Bhandari on May 21 had dissolved the HoR and announced dates for mid-term polls for November 12 and 19.
Opposition parties have filed as many 30 writ petitions against the President’s move saying that the HoR dissolution is against the constitution.
The Supreme Court is hearing on the writs since June 23.
A five-member constitutional bench led by Cholendra Shumsher Rana is hearing the writs in which Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada and Dr Ananda Mohan Bhattarai are members.
As many as 146 lawmakers from the opposition alliance have jointly filed a writ petition seeking a mandamus in the name of the President to appoint Nepali Congress President as the Prime Minister of Nepal.
