KATHMANDU: Sudina Gautam has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD) of Hamro Patro, a popular app in Nepal.

Gautam has served as the Administrative Chief of Hamro Patro since 2070 BS.

Hamro Patro is the most downloaded app in Nepal. It features share market, news, calendar, price-list, horoscope, forex among others.

Gautam has been promoted to the post of Managing Director of the company, according to a statement issued by Hamro Patro.

It added that Gautam — the manager and editor of the app — is the only official representative and liaison person in Nepal.

“We would also want to state that our official liaison official do all the office work and contact us accordingly,” it added.

The company has also urged one and all, including its affiliated partner media outlets to contact the company for renewal of the agreement.

“We expect continued support from all media outlets as always,” the statement said adding, “We are committed to making our app more sophisticated, dynamic and user-friendly.”

Hamro Patro is a calendar app developed by Shanker Raj Upreti in 2010, which was then released in Google Play in 2012.

According to the company, the app – first of its kind in Nepal —  has been downloaded more than ten million times so far.

The app enables users to see latest news, exam routines, zodiac signs, Kundali, online Jyotish consultation, messenger, radio, podcasts, quiz etc. online/offline, among others.

Likewise, other features include personalized news and foreign exchange rates, forex rates, grocery prices, and share market updates.

Upreti created Hamro Patro while he was working in Silicon Valley but it was in 2013, the usage of the app took off exponentially as the android phone came to hands of everyday Nepali people.

According to Upreti, introverted characteristics such as problem-identifying and consistency are some of the key assets to an entrepreneur.

Upreti has also emphasized a robust education system for youngsters to be competitive and innovative in the IT sector.
