NC effort to bring no-confidence motion still alive

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) is carrying out exercises to table a no-confidence motion against the incumbent government led by CPN-UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli but is finding itself short of the threshold.

The party discussed the issue in office-bearers’ meeting held at NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha Sunday. However, efforts are underway as per the decision the party, the NC has said.

Sunday’s NC office-bearers’ meeting was focused on holding 14th general convention and rising cases of coronavirus in the country, among other issues.

Vice President of the party Bimalendra Nidhi said, “It will not be wise to register the no-confidence motion without meeting the numbers required.” He stressed that if NC-table motion fails in the House of Representatives then no such motion could be tabled for the next year.

“So we need to bring the motion only after we are confident that the motion will be passed by majority,” Nidhi added.

NC held talks with two major players, Maoist Center and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), however, the latter is still undecided.
